Proposal for No Canonical Repo for Terra Classic

Helloooo Rabbi my friend! Yes yes yess!! Rule the world claim the throne now for Terra Rebels and friends! You will triumph in the battle for superiority! I love you Rabbi!

Ultimately that is the core blocker this proposal aims to solve, the “who will manage said repo”. The minute you appoint someone to manage it you lose the decentralized status of the repo.

I like the idea of being governed by the governance portal because then we (the community) can give access to whoever individual or team needs access to it via vote. Not sure how feasible it is…maybe the OP can share some thoughts.

For the record:
I vaguely remember reading a twit by Jacob Gadikian on the subject mentioning that the code could be stored in the chain so the chain itself becomes the authoritative source of the chain, but that takes a lot of effort to pull through…maybe the OP can share some thoughts on that too.

One thing is certain, this is a difficult subject but we need to address this elephant in our room

You just proved my point even further. I never said that you HAVE to submit your prop to them first. I said that, that is the basic job of TGF which the community does not care about.

I also mentioned Duncan here. And I have not only mentioned this issue here, I have also mentioned this issue in the TR server when I was there. I was continuously asking TR and you to send your prop to TGF, not because we need some kinda confirmation, but because we would get more feedback and ideas. Everyone was just avoiding Ed on the TR server. It was happening infront of us. Nothing that I need to guess.

I know the fact that TGF gave you a feedback, which was public first, then Ed sent you privately. This was after we all began tagging Ed in the thread over here in Agora. We don’t know what happened after that, but your proposal was put to voting. Tell me I am wrong and please give me the correct timeline if I am wrong.

In any case, I wasn’t discussing any specific case. And it definitely wasn’t a jab at you or anything. But I can’t deny that no one is submitting their props to TGF so that the community can take informed decisions on governance. At least if TGF said that a proposal is fine, we would have some idea whether it is fine or not.

This is the issue with not having a proper identity. I have seen you chatting there. With the exact same name. In fact, you’re on Twitter also. I have been liking your tweets and you have been liking mine. Now I don’t know whether someone is impersonating you.

Anyone can fork the classic repo and write code for it, then submit back a pull-request to have the code changes merged in, GitHub actions (scripts) can even be setup to automatically test and review the code in those pull-requests and even automatically merge or merge on approval, if its access wanted to manually approve the pull-requests, no one has ever bothered to ask for it, TR has NEVER stated we would not work to provide access for merging code, just needs to be discussed so proper permissions are put in place, its really a simple task.

That’s great news and I hope everyone agrees to this as an interim solution.
We still need to address the elephant in the room…how do we decentralize our code repo.

Yes I had seen the tweet being referenced here and it’s a great idea. But it is tough to implement. At least that’s what I think.

This is a much easier solution, if we wish to make the merges automatic, after it has passed review.

We will need Jira or Jenkins setup in order for us to do this though, and the developers will have to get together to get this done. Then it’s an acceptable solution that we can move ahead with for now I believe, until we come up with a better solution.

Cause I am weary about putting so much power in the hands of validators. Already some validators have a lot of voting power and it’s not equally distributed, like @RabbiJebediah mentioned there is always a chance of conflict of interest or collusion between development teams. Each team will want their own merges to pass and not the others. This is natural.

I want to tell you another fact of this proposal.
You put the proposal and it will passed smoothly.
Just because you give the decision rights to validators.
So in the future, every result of voting will only benefit validators.Because they want this result.
And in fact, benefit validators is not equaling benefit the community.

Am I clear enough?

Combine my post before,I just want to warn you, stop dreaming of decentralizing utopia. We are doing serious business.

If you still don’t understand, please read some history about our human. You will find out what is the most valuable solution which is be tested in our history for thousands of years.

Another suggestion,we can review the previous success of luna.Which is done by DxK.The success of luna is not only based on the decentralizing but also by his control power, and the financial structure of his design. In addition, this ecosystem will not succeed without strong leadership by smart person.I think if DxK give all the decision rights to validators or community,we will not see it succeed. And now we face the same situation.I am not going to say his bad decisions or bad luck cause the bad results. But at least, his methods is doing good in the first half story. We can avoid bad decisions afterwards but we cannot make mistakes that he never made before.

A tutela de qual código é executado no blockchain está exclusivamente nas mãos do conjunto de validadores ativos NAO E MUITO PODER DE DECISAO TAMANHA RESPONSSABILIDADE ESTA NAS MAOS DE UM GRUPO DE PESSOAS E SE ELES RESOLVEREM AMANHA OU DEPOIS SEQUESTRA PARA SI O TOTAL CONTROLHE

At this point of time, I can see what validators are doing with the two proposals which are up for voting - they didn’t even come and ask over here whether the proposals affect development in any way. I dunno, the conversation is happening somewhere else maybe but I saw only one validator ask a question in the other thread.

They are voting at above 95% with yes because - they can see that coins are getting BURNT. That’s it. YES.

No logic, no thinking, nothing. If you ask them, they’ll say that they can see coins are getting burnt and OP is getting refilled.

I am not expecting such a bunch of burn friendly people to be taking decisions for development. Please. NO. Absolutely NO.

Development decisions should be left to developers. Period.

I think the current canonical repository should be changed away from Terra Rebels control and overall control of the repo should fall to the TGF and trusted senior developers.

I have never put up a proposal for voting. We do communicate in the twitter space .

I concur. It’s dysfunctional in this respect as noted by the clause:

In my opinion it should not be there. It’s opening up a can of worms. If TGF is not the guardian team for the LUNC community then we may become prey for hungry vultures. Hence, my cry has been for "A BOARD of DIRECTORS’ for LUNC delegators to have some form of autonomy in the trinity of the chain.

I feel, at least for the time being, that canonical repo should be in the hands of the team we overwhelmingly voted to fund and steer L1 development of this chain. I do not wish for the Jl1TF to find themselves encumbered by an obstructing agenda.
Once the team we hired with damn close to 100% approval gets the chain solid and the objectives spelled out in prop 11168 are achieved, perhaps then will the time come to open up to other developers. We must stay focused on a singular path and vision. We can not afford more of the conflict that was prevalent in 2022 which held us in place spinning our wheels.

There is just one issue.

If by chance TR goes rogue and does something, then what are we gonna do? Rewrite the code?

For example, you can see their attitude with Rebel Station. To give it to us, they want money. Like a ransom. It’s written in the proposal and funnily everyone agreed to it, they trusted TR so much.

um, no one said you couldn’t have Rebel Station, its literally open source code available to download anytime, the infrastructure is what we are building and using funds from Neblio to do so.

Sounds good. We can go with commit ID consensus approach for normal releases.

But, for 0-day emergency patches like dragonberry, where the patch is given to closed groups, can we expect L1 task force to notify all the validators? Through discord group maybe

All sounds really good to me. In terms of 130 validators, I suppose this is a suitable number? Who came up with the current number of 130? Pushing towards this decentralised model seems to be the best way forward. Thank you to everyone who has put so much time and effort into Terra Classic so far.

All for a decentralized manner of future upgrades. A definite No to canonical repo and YES to this much needed change…
